One step at a time ...
that was My Journey ...
Baby steps was the only way because ... well ... that was the way to handle the overwhelm.
My Story ...
I spent years being everything to everybody. I was the family member go-to. I was the reliable and trusting friend. I had advice people wanted. Whatever everybody wanted seemed to have no end. It ended when I ended it. Years earlier, I became a caregiver for an older relative and those years seemed to have taken years off my life. So, I had years of never-ending expectations. The truth is the wear and tear - the toll - it took on me is when the constant pull stopped.
I stopped being everything to everybody. I had a life that I always found myself putting off because somebody else's "stuff" got in the way and took up my time and energy where I had little or nothing left to give to myself. My goals and dreams were constantly placed on the back burner. But, that wasn't the worst thing about it all.
The worst thing was not even my deferred goals but my health. I did not realize just how much my body had become stressed, as I stretched myself beyond healthy limits. I stopped and reevaluated everything and everybody. I created a plan that made sense for me so I could live my life for me.
I needed and want my health and a fulfilling life. I wanted peace.
There is still much love and support in family and friend relationships. What is different is me and how much of me I give.
I want you to believe me when I tell you that the lessons I learned are priceless! I regret nothing and take nothing for granted. Everything I experienced has become a reminder for me and a blueprint for living that I love teaching women. It is my mission.
Society has us so convinced we are supposed to give until it hurts that we often hear others give accolades to those who went to their last day giving. With this kind of socialization and mindset, no wonder women feel guilty, embarrassed, confused and frustrated when wanting to do for ourselves.
Well, let me tell you, sacrificing one life for another or others is not something we should be applauding. A fulfilled and peace-filled woman is more valuable to (herself and) the world than an unfulfilled, just surviving woman.
Helping women see their true value, honor her own needs and pursue a life of fulfillment and peace is my mission.
I was raised by an incredible mother and an unstoppable grandmother and I could not be more honored to carry even a fraction of them forward in all that I do.
